My name is Jared Haslam and first and foremost I’m a dad of 4 boys.  So, yes, that’s where a great deal of my energy is channeled during my “free” time.  In other words, getting in a round of 18 at this point is a feat that needs some serious planning so “mama” knows that I’ll be out on a day when I’m normally would be home with the boys.

I love the game of golf, but I’m not a total fanatic. Which means that I don’t subscribe to any golf magazines (yet), and I don’t follow the latest tournament hoping to find out who hit what kind of shot and missed which putts. In fact, I can’t even tell you who is the number one golfer in the world now, let alone numbers 2-5. I love the game for its challenge; for the way it tempts you with glimpses of greatness and skill that keep you and me coming back to the course to chase around a little white ball that is way more expensive than it should be. I love how the greatest challenge in the game is gaining control over yourself, your emotions, your psyche, and your entire body. That’s one reason I keeping coming back to this game, and keep trying to get better at the game.

I’ve been playing for over 20 years. However, “playing” should be loosely interpreted as playing a couple of times a year for the bulk of those 20 years. Yes, with the exception of my high school years when I played on the golf team and my nickname included the word “hackin’”, I haven’t played very consistently. So, it really is no wonder that I’m not a great golfer. My handicap is somewhere between a 12-25 depending on who I’m talking to (c’mon, we all do this) although I’ve never really calculated it officially. But, I have big dreams and someday I hope to shoot a par round of golf. Yup, that’s it. I’d like to shoot a 72 on a par 72 course. I know, I know, there are slope ratings and all that jazz, but I’d take the score on any course, any day, regardless.  And so I have begun my journey of, yep, you guessed it… Reaching Par.

I’m always game to hear your comments, suggestions, swing tips, practice tips, playing tips, stock tips, whatever – I enjoy the dialog.
